Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

It’s that time of year again-sweaters, boots and the end of Daylight Saving Time!  Don’t forget to change your clocks this Sunday November 6th as we fall back an hour. This is also a perfect time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors!

Our general election falls this coming Tuesday November 8th. Many Solheim residents have already mailed their ballots in.  If you feel that you need any support in either choosing an appropriate method of voting or in understanding any portion of your ballot, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your family for help.  Our staff is available to assist you in getting to a polling place, or delivering your ballot to a polling place for you.  Please contact Ashley Brayman at abrayman@solheimsenior.org if you have any questions. We are thankful for our right to vote!

As you know, we had to postpone the launch of our Resident Satisfaction Survey – the kick-off event is now scheduled for Wednesday at 2pm in the Residential Dining Room.  These will be distributed to our residents (or their Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare) following our kick-off event.  These surveys are an important tool for Solheim to get a sense of how it is doing in the eyes of our residents, and to help us identify any areas in which we can strive to improve next year. This formal survey will provide us with a good baseline for starting 2023 with a focus on continuing to improve our operations.

A Reminder About Visitation Guidelines: The most recent State Public Health Officer Order states that skilled nursing facilities are no longer required or recommended to routinely test staff twice weekly and residents once weekly.  (Out of an abundance of caution, however, Solheim will maintain its testing capacity and preserve its ability to ramp up testing if routine screening testing is required at some point in the future.) This Health Officer Order also states that skilled nursing facilities are no longer required to verify vaccination status and/or negative test results for general visitors seeking indoor visitation.

Accordingly, the following guidelines apply to ALL visitors in ALL levels of care on our campus:

  • All visitors will be screened for a recent diagnosis of COVID-19, symptoms of COVID-19 infection, and close contact exposure.

  • All visitors will be offered a COVID-19 test, but testing is not required.

  • Only essential visitors will be allowed at this time for any residents having tested positive for COVID-

As of today, we have one new resident in our Residential/Assisted Living campus who has tested positive for COVID-19. We have extended the closure of all communal dining, activities, etc. through the end of the day Monday.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
