Weekly Update August 21, 2026

A‍ugust 21, 2026

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

As we move through the final weeks of summer, another stretch of very hot weather is on the way. Please remember to drink plenty of water and take advantage of the hydration stations throughout campus. If you are having any trouble with the air conditioning in your apartment, please let the Front Desk or your nursing staff know right away so we can assist. Staying cool, comfortable, and well hydrated remains an important part of keeping everyone safe during the heat.

We are also pleased to share a new service from our Library Committee. After testing the program over the past few months, residents can now request books, large-print materials, audiobooks, other audio materials, and movies from the Los Angeles Public Library for delivery to Solheim. Items not available locally generally take three to five days to arrive, and regular library due dates and availability guidelines apply. The program is available to residents in Residential Living, Assisted Living, and our Health Center. Request forms are available at the Front Desk and may be returned there for processing; please ask for help if you need assistance completing one.

There is also plenty of fun ahead. Solheim's Annual Hawaiian Luau will be Friday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m., with hula dancers and plenty of island spirit. We hope everyone will come out, join friends and neighbors, and enjoy this special summer tradition.

Looking ahead, our Eagle Rock Oktoberfest is coming September 19 from 5:00–9:00 p.m. Sponsorships help make this community event possible and support Solheim's mission. If you, your family, a business, or someone you know would like to participate as a sponsor, please visit www.solheimsenior.org/oktoberfest for details. Sharing the event with friends and colleagues is another wonderful way to help.

Just a few days later, Solheim will partner with Huntington Health for a Blood Drive on Wednesday, September 23, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. and 12:30–3:30 p.m. Donating blood is a simple act that can help save lives and support patients facing emergencies, surgeries, and serious illnesses. Appointments can be scheduled using the QR code on the flyer found throughout campus, and walk-ins are welcome. Donors should eat and stay well hydrated before donating and will receive a $10 gift card to In-N-Out, Starbucks, or Amazon.

From staying safe during the heat to enjoying the Luau, exploring new library materials, supporting Oktoberfest, and giving the gift of life, there are many ways to stay connected at Solheim. Thank you for continuing to make our community such a welcoming place to call home.

Masks for all visitors to our campus will be available upon request.  For additional information, please visit our website at www.solheimsenior.org. Questions may also be directed to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 extension 225 or at tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
