Weekly Update September 19, 2025

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
Fall is trying to sneak in with cooler weather and the hint of rain, though summer isn’t quite ready to surrender. The season’s shifting beauty reminds us how lucky we are to share these days together here in Southern California.
Our campus calendar is brimming with opportunities in the week ahead. On Saturday, September 20, Solheim’s Book Club will gather once again—a dedicated and lively group always eager to welcome new members and new voices. This coming Monday at 2pm, residents will enjoy a scenic drive through Chevy Chase Canyon, one of Southern California’s hidden gems. The winding roads, tree-lined streets, and canyon views offer a chance to take in the beginnings of autumn, and perhaps even catch glimpses of leaves just beginning to change.
In our Health Center, residents will gather for a monthly Candlelight Dinner on Thursday. Family members are invited to join, but please RSVP with Ashley Brayman at abrayman@solheimsenior.org. Also in the Health Center, we are excited to introduce a new dining ordering system. Residents will soon notice refreshed paper menus, and our staff will be collecting meal choices on tablets. This change allows for more personalized ordering and ensures meals reflect individual preferences. We kindly ask for your patience as our team and residents adjust to this new system—change is never without its bumps, but we are confident it will bring more comfort and enjoyment to mealtimes.

And now, the countdown is on—Oktoberfest is only about a week away! This annual celebration promises music, food, fellowship, and plenty of joy. We are especially delighted to announce that residents’ entrance fees will be waived this year, making it easier than ever to join in. Families and friends are encouraged to attend—it’s a highlight of the year, filled with laughter and togetherness. Sponsorships are available to help ensure the event’s success, and sign-ups can be made at the Front Desk. More information, including sponsorship opportunities and ticket purchases, can be found at www.solheimsenior.org/oktoberfest. We hope to see you there—your presence makes the celebration all the more meaningful.
As we enter the season of gratitude, we also invite you to participate in the Employee Appreciation Fund, which will be distributed in December. Since tipping is not permitted, this fund provides a wonderful way to thank the staff for their year-round dedication and care. We suggest a contribution of $300 per family, though every donation—large or small—is deeply valued. Contributions may be made online at www.solheimsenior.org/donate. Together, we can make this holiday season especially meaningful for those who give so much of themselves every day.
All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.
