Weekly Update September 12, 2025

September 12, 2025

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This week we pause to remember the anniversary of September 11th, honoring not only the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day but also the thousands of soldiers who gave their lives in the years that followed. We also grieve the recent tragedies in our nation, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk and others who have suffered senseless acts of violence. In moments such as these, we are reminded of our calling to unity rather than division, to be people of peace and compassion. As Scripture tells us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18). May we continue to embody the Solheim Feeling by showing kindness, compassion, and care for one another, for even the smallest gesture of love can bring comfort and healing.

We also extend our thanks for your patience as our front lobby remodel continues. Many have asked for a peek inside, and while we cannot open the wall, a drawing of what is to come is now displayed on the temporary safety wall. We are excited to reveal the finished lobby as the holidays approach, just in time to celebrate the many wonderful upgrades taking place across campus.

Looking ahead, Oktoberfest is now only about two weeks away. This festive gathering will be filled with music, food, and fellowship. We are delighted to announce that residents’ entrance fees will be waived this year, and we warmly encourage families and friends to attend. Sponsorships are also available to help make this celebration a success. Sign-ups are available at the Front Desk, and more information, including sponsorship opportunities and ticket purchases, can be found at www.solheimsenior.org/oktoberfest.

Our campus calendar is full of engaging opportunities in the week ahead. Monday Night Football will bring fans together to enjoy the game, and on Tuesday the Wellness Center will come alive with a special party. In addition, this coming Wednesday will feature a Q&A with Mike Gonzalez, our Director of Residential Health and Wellness, offering an excellent chance to ask questions and learn more about his work with our community.

Throughout the week, there will be many chances to join games and trivia, and on Friday we will enjoy a special Opera performance with Monica Schober and Friends. Saturday, September 20, marks the gathering of Solheim’s Book Club, a dedicated and lively group always eager to welcome new members. For the latest details and reminders about these and other opportunities, we encourage everyone to tune in to our in-house Channel 1390.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the board members who joined us this past Wednesday for a tour of Solheim. Their dedication, guidance, and ongoing support are essential in helping to shape the future of our community, and we are thankful for their time and commitment.

Finally, we remind everyone of the Employee Appreciation Fund, which will be distributed in December. Since tipping is not permitted, this fund provides a special opportunity to express gratitude for the care and service our staff provide throughout the year. We suggest a contribution of $300 per family, though any donation is deeply appreciated. Contributions may be made online at www.solheimsenior.org/donate.

All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
