Weekly Update August 22, 2025
August 22, 2025
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
With the extreme heat we are experiencing—and with forecasts showing it will continue into next week—it is important to take a moment to remind everyone to take care of themselves. Heat can be especially taxing on the body, particularly for older adults. When temperatures rise, the body works harder to regulate itself, which can lead to dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, and in more serious cases, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Warning signs include confusion, headaches, muscle cramps, nausea, and a rapid heartbeat.
One of the best defenses is hydration, so please make sure to drink water regularly throughout the day. Hydration stations are available across campus—be sure to stop by often. If your air conditioning isn’t working or you need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact your nursing station or the front desk immediately.
As we care for our health, we also continue to care for our home here at Solheim. Our Lobby Expansion project is well underway, and I want to thank everyone for their patience as we live with a little extra noise. This work will greatly enhance our community gathering spaces, as the Merton and Manor lobby will be extended into the adjacent room, effectively doubling the size of this important area. The new design will feature a welcoming lounge with a cozy fireplace and a bistro-style seating area—perfect for coffee, conversation, and fellowship with friends.
In addition, our bathroom remodel behind the Chapel is progressing nicely. One newly remodeled restroom is already open, and work has now begun on the second. These updates are a reminder of our commitment to continually improving our spaces, creating a more comfortable and pleasant environment for all who call Solheim home.
Our activities program continues to enrich daily life. September is just around the corner, bringing with it a new calendar full of opportunities for fun, meaning, and purpose. As always, details can be found on our monthly calendar, in the Weekly Informer, on our Daily Sheets, and on in-house Channel 1390. We encourage you to take part in the events you won’t want to miss.
Looking ahead, next week offers even more to enjoy. We will host a special fine dining event for Health Center residents, bringing the elegance of a restaurant experience right here to Solheim. And on Thursday the 28th, we’ll celebrate with a Hawaiian Luau on the Health Center Patio at 3:30 p.m. The afternoon will feature dancers, festive music, and delicious food. Come dressed in your Hawaiian best and join us for what promises to be a joyful celebration filled with the spirit of aloha.
All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.
