Weekly Update June 20, 2025
June 20, 2025
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
Today marks the first official day of summer—and the longest day of the year! We welcomed the season in style with our Beach Party Happy Hour at 3:00 PM in the Wellness Center. It was a joyful celebration filled with music, refreshments, and sunshine-themed fun. Thank you to all who joined us to kick off the summer spirit.
We’d like to inform residents who have Solheim manage their medications that we will be transitioning to a new program starting July 1. This new system will replace traditional prescription bottles with pharmacy-prepared bubble packs. These bubble packs organize medications by date and time of day—morning, noon, evening, and bedtime—so each dose is easy to identify and take correctly. This change is designed to improve medication safety, simplify administration, and reduce the number of loose bottles. Our care team will provide support during this transition to ensure residents are comfortable and informed.
In the library, we are pleased to announce the arrival of a new electronic Reader device, generously donated by the Kuromiya family. This addition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our library resources and make reading more accessible for everyone. Whether for books, newspapers, or personal letters, this Reader helps magnify and clarify text, providing valuable assistance to those with visual challenges. To help residents get familiar with the new device, Spenser will host a special Tech Chat on Thursday, June 26 at 10:30 AM in the Navigage Room.
As we continue to expand our outing experiences, we are inviting donations toward the purchase of an audio enhancement system for our large bus. This new equipment will allow all passengers to clearly hear narration from Ashley, who leads our highly popular scenic outings with fascinating stories and context about the places we visit. The total cost is $800, and every donation—big or small—makes a difference. If you’d like to support this enhancement, please contact Tina Antypas or visit www.solheimsenior.org/donate.
A reminder that Solheim’s next Blood Drive will take place on Thursday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in partnership with Huntington Health and Cedars Sinai. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful impact during National Blood Donor Month. All donors will receive a $10 In-N-Out or Amazon gift card as a token of appreciation. If you plan to give blood, please remember to eat a healthy meal beforehand, drink plenty of water, and bring your driver’s license or photo ID. To register, scan the QR code on the posted flyers or use the link provided throughout the community.
All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.
