Weekly Update July 26, 2024

July 26, 2024
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

We appreciate your patience as Merton Avenue received a new asphalt slurry seal this past Wednesday.  I know closures like these affect the already challenging parking situation!  We hope this did not disrupt your plans too much and we’re pleased to have this project completed.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Our Library Committee has been busy!  Their enthusiasm is contagious, and their diligent efforts in cataloging and organizing books throughout our campus continues.  Solheim has just over 1000 books, not including a few bookshelves in our Health Center.  You’ll be amazed at what wonderful reads this collection offers everyone.

Each month, our resident-led Library Committee highlights their featured selections, and for July, the spotlight is on the 67 Large Print books available on portable shelves in the Sun Room.  A list of these books can be found at the front desk!  In addition, our committee is making good use of the bulletin board just outside the Sun Room and our Library.  You’ll find articles from the New York Times about books, publishing, authors, etc.  Join in the adventure of reading, and feel free to share your newspaper clippings about books, etc in the tray under the board just for that purpose!

Our activity calendar is full of wonderful opportunities to participate, even in this last week of July.  Just this Saturday we’ll be heading to the Pasadena Pops Summer Concert at the Arboretum.  Happy Hours, Movies, Live Entertainment, Ice Cream Socials and more can be found on your monthly calendar, as well as on our Solheim In-House Channel.  Tune into channel 1390 for updated information.

Oe final reminder, as this summer heat continues, please remember to keep hydrated! We have established hydration stations throughout the campus to ensure easy access to water. Please make use of these stations regularly to keep yourself hydrated and safe. Let’s look out for each other and stay cool!  If you have any issues with your Air Conditioning, please let the front desk or your nursing station know ASAP!

If you have any issues regarding your air conditioning, please don’t hesitate to let us know as soon as possible. You can contact the front desk or your nursing station, and we will follow through with maintenance immediately.

All staff in our Skilled Nursing Facility and Halvorson Memory Care must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask, and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
