August 2, 2024

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

Our Library Committee continues with some great work! I’m thrilled with their enthusiasm and they share this message about August’s features selection!

Did you know that so far this year 6 of 10 of the top selling authors in the United States are Romance Authors? The first Romance bookstore opened in 2016, and now there are 20 -one in Culver City and one in Ventura! Romance novels are now prominently displayed in stores such as Target and Barnes & Noble.

Are you intrigued but not convinced? Why not start with a short story by Rosamunde Pilcher or Maeve Binchy. If you already love thrillers, try a Romance -Thriller by Tami Hoag or Danielle Steel. Solheim even has Large Print books by Steel!

In addition, our committee is making good use of the bulletin board just outside the Sun Room and our Library. You’ll find articles from the New York Times about books, publishing, authors, etc. Join in the adventure of reading, and feel free to share your newspaper clippings about books, etc. in the tray under the board just for that purpose!

Our August activity calendar is full of wonderful opportunities to participate and enrich your life. This coming Tuesday from 5:30pm to 7:30pm we’ll be celebrating the City’s National Night Out with our neighbors at the 7th Day Adventist Church next door, followed by Coffee with Sam on Wednesday at 10am. In addition, you’ll find live entertainment, featured movies, adventures, outings and more that can be found on your monthly calendar, as well as on our Solheim In-House Channel. Tune into channel 1390 for updated information.

One final reminder, as this summer heat continues, please remember to keep hydrated! We have established hydration stations throughout the campus to ensure easy access to water. Please make use of these stations regularly to keep yourself hydrated and safe. Let’s look out for each other and stay cool! If you have any issues with your Air Conditioning, please let the front desk or your nursing station know ASAP!

All staff in our Skilled Nursing Facility and Halvorson Memory Care must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask, and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
