Weekly Update July 19, 2024
July 19, 2024
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
We’ve just received notice from the City of LA regarding upcoming street work that will affect the entrance, parking lot, and street parking in front of Solheim. Next Wednesday, July 24th, the entire street of Merton Ave. will be closed off for an asphalt slurry seal application from 6am to 6pm. During this time, there will be no parking on Merton Ave., and access to our Skilled Nursing parking lot will be restricted.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. We understand this may disrupt your plans and impact daily activities at Solheim. If you are expecting visitors on Wednesday, please consider making alternative arrangements due to the scheduled work. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
I mentioned this last week, but it bears repeating! As we navigate through this period of extreme heat, it’s crucial to prioritize staying hydrated, especially for our older adults who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Adequate hydration helps regulate body temperature and maintain essential bodily functions, which is vital for our well-being.
To support everyone, we have established hydration stations throughout the campus to ensure easy access to water. Please make use of these stations regularly to keep yourself hydrated and safe. Let’s look out for each other and stay cool!
If you have any issues regarding your air conditioning, please don’t hesitate to let us know as soon as possible. You can contact the front desk or your nursing station, and we will follow through with maintenance immediately.
Thank you for your patience as we are implementing our new ordering system in our Residential Dining Room. We’ve begun using a new tablet-based system for ordering meals to improve service! This is new technology, and it is new for staff as well. You may be asked a few additional questions when ordering your meals to make sure your meal is accurate and complete. Please reach out to our Director of Dining Services Andrea Megel if you have any questions.
All staff in our Skilled Nursing Facility and Halvorson Memory Care must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) and Halvorson Neighborhood are required to wear a mask, and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.
If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
