To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
Solheim is getting back to its roots today! Originally founded as the Norwegian Lutheran Society for the Aged, we continue to celebrate ‘Syttende mai’ which is Norway’s Constitution Day celebrated each year on May 17th! Debbie and Garth from the Sons of Norway Van Nuys Lodge joined us to perform traditional songs as residents indulged in some delectable Norwegian treats this afternoon!
We’re excited to announce a fantastic opportunity that will be added to our calendar next week. On Thursday, May 23rd, at 3 PM in our Chapel, we will host Whim 'n Rhythm, Yale University's premier all-senior upper-voices a cappella group. Founded in 1981 as the first all-female senior group, Whim 'n Rhythm now showcases the most talented upper-voices of each senior class in Yale's a cappella community. Make sure to mark your calendar and don’t miss this wonderful event. For the latest updates, check your Solheim Channel 1390!
I am delighted to introduce the newest addition to our Leadership Team, Anthony Arnaudy, who joined us this week as our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Athony brings over 25 years of extensive experience in financial operations and management. We are excited to welcome him to our Solheim family and encourage you to greet him when you see him around campus.
We also want to express our gratitude to Dave Pierce, our Interim CFO, who generously came out of retirement to support us during our search for the perfect candidate. Dave will continue to assist with the transition, and we wish him all the best as he embarks on his next chapter.
I am pleased to report that the concrete replacement at our front entrance has been completed, and we are back to receiving all visitors through this Front Lobby entrance. Thank you for your understanding and patience as this work was being done!
As I mentioned last week we are excited to share with you a new initiative spearheaded by our residents: the expansion of library resources within Solheim Senior Community. In today’s fast-paced world, access to information and engaging literature is more important than ever, especially for our beloved seniors. As Nancy Bess, a cherished Solheim resident and chair of our Library Committee aptly puts it, “Books are access to the world—just because we’re older doesn’t mean we accept limited options. A Solheim library can free us and expand our world!” Our resident committee’s focus is on ensuring accessibility for all.
For the next 30 days, Solheim will match every donation made, up to a total of $4,000. Your contribution will go twice as far in making a difference! We aim to provide reading options that cater to individual preferences. Whether it’s larger print sizes, audio versions, or specialized tools like reading lights and magnification aids, our goal is to remove barriers and make the joy of reading accessible to everyone. Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our community. Gifts may be made online at www.solheimsenior.org/donate, or drop your check off at the front desk. Contact Tina Antypas for more details.
Masks are strongly recommended for visitors. Staff are no longer required to wear a mask in the Health Center/ Skilled Nursing campus. All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.
