This weekend, we honor Mother’s Day—a time to celebrate not only our own mothers but all the incredible women who enrich our lives. Whether it’s a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, or any nurturing figure, this special day is dedicated to appreciating the support and care they provide. Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Today we wrapped up a fantastic Team Member Appreciation Week, honoring  our team’s tireless efforts in caring for our residents. Our staff's genuine passion for their work truly makes a world of difference in fulfilling our mission. Each themed day of the week was a tribute to their dedication and the compassionate care they provide daily. We are immensely thankful for the love and care our team shows each and every day, making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve. Their commitment does not go unnoticed, and this week was a small token of our deep appreciation.

We would like to inform you of an update regarding the planned maintenance work we communicated last week.  The start date for the repairs on the driveway entrances to our Skilled Nursing Parking lot, along with the alley driveway, has been moved to this Monday, May 13th due to changes in the City’s schedule.  As a result, parking on the south side of Merton Avenue will be affected from May 13th through Friday, May 17th.  Please note that access to the Skilled Nursing Parking lot will be restricted to one entrance and exit during this period.

Additionally, the ramp and concrete in front of our main entrance will be replaced on Tuesday, May 14th. Consequently, our main entrance will be closed on this day.  All visitors are requested to use the Health Center entrance instead.   Please inform your visiting loved ones and we thank you for your understanding and patience during these maintenance efforts.

We are excited to share with you a new initiative spearheaded by our residents: the expansion of library resources within Solheim Senior Community. In today’s fast-paced world, access to information and engaging literature is more important than ever, especially for our beloved seniors.  As Nancy Bess, a cherished Solheim resident and chair of our Library Committee aptly puts it, “Books are access to the world—just because we’re older doesn’t mean we accept limited options.  A Solheim library can free us and expand our world!”.  Our resident committee’s focus is on ensuring accessibility for all.

For the next 30 days, Solheim will match every donation made, up to a total of $4,000. Your contribution will go twice as far in making a difference! We aim to provide reading options that cater to individual preferences. Whether it’s larger print sizes, audio versions, or specialized tools like reading lights and magnification aids, our goal is to remove barriers and make the joy of reading accessible to everyone.  Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our community.  Gifts may be made online at www.solheimsenior.org/donate, or drop your check off at the front desk.  Contact Tina Antypas for more details.

Masks are strongly recommended for visitors.   Staff are no longer required to wear a mask in the Health Center/ Skilled Nursing campus.  All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
