Weekly Update March 18, 2022

March 18, 2022

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This Sunday, March 20th, marks the first day of Spring!   For me, Spring is steeped in love and joy – the essence of all that is good – and I associate the Spring months with ideas of rebirth, renewal, resurrection and regrowth. Spring symbolizes life in all of its glory.  I think that’s all a very fitting theme for Solheim, as we continue to work to beautify and rejuvenate campus with capital improvement projects in the months ahead.

With Spring upon us, we also just held elections for our newest members of our Resident Council.  We thank our outgoing members – Letha Stewart (Chair), Bob Shaull (Secretary), Tye Veden (Vice Chair), Nancy Motzkus, and Roberta Zane – for their dedication.  Our newest members will be Tom Cox, Aletta Parker, Mary Rough and Alice Ward.  We still have an opening for one more member, so please let Tina Antypas or me know if you are interested!

I am also very pleased to announce that Anna Lee has recently been promoted to interim Director of Resident Health and Wellness.  Anna has already been a part of our Solheim team as our Director of Staff Development for the last 4 years, and she has worked in senior living 13 years.  We are so grateful for her experience and expertise.

Our visitation guidelines have changed slightly since last week – (please be aware that we stop offering rapid tests at 4:30pm).  If you come to visit after that time, we ask that you provide your own proof of a negative Covid-19 test result from within the past 48 hours.  I sincerely thank you for your patience, as our guidelines will likely continue to evolve considering changing regulatory guidance. Our current visitation guidelines are:

  • All GENERAL visitors must provide one of the following prior to entering the facility for all indoor and in-room visits, REGARDLESS of vaccination status: a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within 48 Hours, or a negative Antigen test within 24 hours.

  • Testing is not required for OUTDOOR visitation.

  • All ESSENTIAL visitors are exempt from the testing requirement and may visit any resident in any zone regardless of vaccination status.

  • Proof of vaccination and booster shot, if eligible, is required for all INDOOR visits.

  • Outdoor visitation is permitted for those that do not meet the vaccination requirement.

  • Indoor visitors and visitors eligible for outdoor visitation must always wear a facemask during the visitation and physically distance themselves from facility staff and other residents and visitors that are not part of their group at all times during the visit.

  • Alternative communication such as phone calls, video calls, and online communication is always available.

To further mitigate the spread of COVID-19, if you are sick or not feeling well for any reason you should postpone your visit and not come to campus until you’re feeling well again.

I am pleased to say, as of today’s writing, we have no cases of COVID-19 on campus.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
