As we begin this weekend, we pause to remember the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years later, we honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders and countless others who demonstrated extraordinary courage and compassion. It is also a day that reminds us of the importance of community—of caring for one another and finding strength in being together.
There is much to look forward to at Solheim in the days ahead. Beginning this Saturday, we are pleased to welcome a new weekly Art Class led by our volunteer, Mira. Residents are invited to join her each Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for an opportunity to create, learn and enjoy time together.
On Tuesday, September 15, we’ll celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a special performance by the Carolina Russek Dancers at 3:00 p.m. in the Dining Room. They’ll share a taste of Spanish dance with a splash of Mexican dance as we recognize this important celebration of Mexican history and culture.
Then it’s time for Oktoberfest! Our annual celebration takes place Saturday, September 19, from 5:00–9:00 p.m.—fittingly, the same day the world-famous Oktoberfest celebration opens in Munich, Germany. We hope residents, families and friends will join us for an evening of food, music and fun right here at Solheim. The entrance fee is waived for Solheim residents; however, residents should purchase a meal if they plan to dine at the event. Please stop by the Front Desk for resident information. Family and friends are encouraged to get their entry tickets soon and can find additional information at www.solheimsenior.org/oktoberfest.
Looking a little further ahead, we’re returning to Vidiots on Monday, September 21, for a special screening of the classic musical On the Town. Tickets are $12, and we can accommodate up to 36 people. Family members are welcome to join us, making this a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an afternoon at one of our favorite neighborhood destinations together. On Thursday, September 24, our Health Center residents will gather for a special Jewish Heritage Dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the Health Center. Join friends and neighbors for a memorable evening of fellowship, community and cultural celebration. To RSVP, please contact Tammy Acuna at trollice@solheimsenior.org.
One more date to keep in mind as we look toward fall: beginning Monday, October 5, our Front Desk will return to its regular closing time of 5:00 p.m., following our extended summer hours. Please share this change with family members and visitors who regularly come to Solheim. Visitors arriving after 5:00 p.m. may enter through our Health Center.
Finally, a friendly reminder about being good neighbors. As we settle into the evening hours, please be mindful of noise and the volume of televisions, particularly during quiet hours. A little consideration goes a long way toward making Solheim a peaceful and comfortable home for everyone.
