To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

As we approach Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are grateful for their sacrifice and wish everyone a meaningful and peaceful holiday weekend shared with family, friends, and community.

The Halvorson Garden continues to flourish thanks to the loving care and dedication of our residents. From planting and watering to tending each growing vegetable with pride, our residents have truly created something special together. Just last week, fresh cucumbers harvested from the garden were enjoyed on our salad bar — a delicious reminder of the rewards that come from patience, teamwork, and nurturing care.

Therapeutic gardening offers so many wonderful benefits for our residents. Spending time outdoors, staying active, connecting with nature, and sharing meaningful experiences with one another all contribute to physical, emotional, and social well-being. Most importantly, the joy and sense of accomplishment our residents experience while caring for the garden shines through in every bloom and harvest. We are so proud of the care and enthusiasm they continue to bring to the Halvorson Garden.

Looking ahead to next week, residents will have another exciting opportunity to explore seasonal food preparation during our Teaching Kitchen with Chef Brooke on Thursday at 10:30am on the Sensory Patio. This special event will feature fresh, seasonal ingredients and helpful culinary tips in an engaging and interactive setting. Reservations are required, so please be sure to sign up in advance. We look forward to another wonderful opportunity for residents to learn, connect, and enjoy the flavors of the season together!

We would also like to share a few important community reminders and housekeeping notes. Dedicated parking spots at the 7th Day Adventist Church are reserved for employees. We greatly value our relationship with our neighbors and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in respecting their parking guidelines. We understand parking can sometimes be challenging, and we encourage the use of available street parking while being mindful to keep our loading zone open for resident drop-offs and pick-ups. Additional parking is also available in our Health Center parking lot.

As a reminder, our Wellness Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Local Shopping outings take place every Tuesday at 1:30pm, except for the last Tuesday of the month when shopping begins at 10:00am. Sign-ups are located by the calendar in our Residential Campus. Our Hair Salon is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays by appointment, and additional details may be found at the Front Desk.

These ongoing activities and services are just a few of the many ways we continue to support wellness, connection, learning, and joy throughout our community. Whether tending the garden, participating in special programs, enjoying outings, or simply spending time together, it is the spirit of engagement and care that makes Solheim such a vibrant and welcoming place to call home.

Masks for all visitors to our campus will be available upon request.
