Weekly Update April 10, 2026

April 10, 2026

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This week at Solheim, we’ve been happily digging in the dirt! With the beautiful spring weather upon us, our residents have been spending time outdoors in the Halvorson California Garden, rolling up their sleeves and transforming one of our large garden beds into something truly special.

Together, they planted a vibrant mix of vegetables—zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes and more—and a variety of fresh herbs. In addition to planting, residents have been tending the space with care, clearing weeds and leaves and nurturing what will soon become a thriving garden. To add both beauty and function, marigolds and mini roses were also planted. Not only do they brighten the garden, but marigolds in particular are known to help deter certain pests, making them a wonderful natural companion to our vegetables.

Gardening offers so much more than just the promise of fresh produce. It is a deeply therapeutic activity for people of all ages—supporting physical movement, reducing stress, encouraging mindfulness, and fostering a sense of purpose and accomplishment. There is something truly special about nurturing life from the soil and watching it grow. We are already looking forward to “harvesting the fruits of our labor” in the months ahead!

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation for everyone’s patience as we work on enlarging the door to our breezeway. We understand this may cause some temporary inconvenience, and we are grateful for your understanding as we continue to enhance and upgrade our campus.

Solheim will host a Drive-Through Shredding Event on Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (or until the truck fills up) in our Skilled Nursing parking lot. This event is open to the public, so please feel free to share with family and friends. See the flyer below!

Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate Team Member Appreciation Week from May 4th through May 8th. Each day will feature a different theme along with special treats and activities to recognize the incredible dedication of our staff who bring the “Solheim Feeling” to life. We welcome support from our community—whether by sponsoring a full day, contributing to part of a day, or making a gift in honor of our team—as we celebrate those who give so much to our residents.  Contact Tina Antypas tantypas@solheimsenior.org to make a donation.

All staff working on our Skilled Nursing Campus are required to wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to the Health Center are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test prior to entry.

For additional information, please visit our website at www.solheimsenior.org. Questions may also be directed to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 extension 225 or at tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
