Living here in Southern California, I don’t pay much attention to the weather forecasts.  I look out the window in the morning and decide whether I need short sleeves or long sleeves.  Listening to the news, I hear ‘Snow’ and ‘Blizzard’, and that gets my attention!  It’s a rarity to get weather like this — in the land known for everlasting sunshine and balmy beach trips — but snow has happened before outside the mountains and foothills.

The blizzard warning, which is in effect Friday and Saturday for Southern California’s highest mountain ranges, is likely only the second on record for the Los Angeles area, according to the National Weather Service, with the last blizzard warning issued in 1989, when a strong winter storm brought rare snowfall to Southern California, from Palm Springs to the hillsides of Malibu.  I can imagine some of our residents who were in Southern California when it snowed have some wonderful stories to share!  I’d love to hear them.

With this being said, we’re in for some wild weather in the next few days, and we’d ask everyone to remain safe, and stay off the streets if you’re able.  For our residents, please let us know immediately if you need help adjusting the temperatures in your apartments or need any other type of assistance!  It’s going to be unusually wet, windy and chilly, so please be careful, and ask for help if needed!

As a reminder, the 1st Quarter of the year is just around the corner, which means we will be selecting our ‘Employees of the Quarter’ soon.  Please be sure to nominate any employees and share your kind words through our Solheim Feeling nomination card that can be found at the front desk or any nursing stations.  You may also nominate an employee online at www.solheimsenior.org/employee-recognition.

Visitation Guidelines remain unchanged. Proof of negative COVID-19 tests are no longer required; however, you may request a rapid test if you desire.

  • All visitors will be screened for a recent diagnosis of COVID-19, symptoms of COVID-19 infection, and close contact exposure.

As of today, we have no new residents or staff who have tested positive for Covid-19.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
