Weekly Update January 9, 2026

January 9, 2026
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

As we begin a new year, we pause to remember that one year ago this week, devastating wildfires swept through the Altadena and Pacific Palisades areas. While time has passed, the impact for many has not. Families, neighborhoods, and lives were forever changed. We hold in our hearts those who continue to navigate loss, rebuilding, and adjustment. Moments like these remind us of the importance of mindfulness, compassion, and community—values deeply woven into the Solheim Feeling. As we move into this next phase of the year, we do so with empathy, gratitude, and gusto.

Our January calendars are now published, featuring thoughtfully curated activities that nurture body, mind, and spirit. From movement and wellness to creativity and connection, we invite you to explore all that is offered and stay engaged across campus.

We also encourage residents to participate in our Resident Council, with elections coming up soon. The Resident Council meets next Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel, and the Resident Town Hall will take place Thursday at 10:00 a.m., also in the Chapel. These gatherings provide meaningful opportunities to share input, ask questions, and hear timely updates.

Next Tuesday, the 13th, we will enjoy a special outing to the Griffith Observatory, a beloved Los Angeles landmark since 1935. This iconic destination offers breathtaking views and inspires curiosity about science and the universe. For more information and to RSVP, please contact Ashley Brayman at abrayman@solheimsenior.org.

We would also like to share an important staff update. Mike Gonzalez, our Director of Resident Health & Wellness, will be leaving Solheim, with his last day being Thursday, January 22nd. Michael is moving on to his next chapter, and we thank him for his dedication and wish him well. If residents have any questions, please contact Meg Spurlin at mspurlin@solheimsenior.org.

Be sure to check the January calendar and In-House Channel 1390 for many additional opportunities, including exercise classes, games, social gatherings, and special events.

As we round out the quarter, we invite you to participate in our Employee Recognition Program. This is a wonderful way to acknowledge team members who go above and beyond in living out our mission and values. Nominations are now open for Employee of the 4th Quarter and Employee of the Year. Your words of appreciation truly matter. To nominate an employee, please visit www.solheimsenior.org/employee-recognition.

As a reminder, all staff working on our Skilled Nursing Campus are required to wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to the Health Center are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test prior to entry.

Questions may be directed to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 extension 225 or at tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
