August 30, 2024

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This Labor Day, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of individuals across all industries. It’s a day to recognize the effort, skill, and perseverance that drive our communities forward. Whether you’re enjoying a well-deserved break or continuing to pursue your passions, we hope you take a moment to appreciate the contributions of workers everywhere. Here’s to the power of teamwork, commitment, and the spirit of labor that unites us all.  Wishing you a restful and fulfilling Labor Day!

I am happy to share that the work on the second elevator serving our Merton & Manor buildings is now complete and fully operational. Thank you for your patience during this process. We are excited to announce that our Wellness Center and personal Laundry Services are now fully open and ready to serve you. Solheim has provided free laundry service to Independent Living Residents while the elevator was out of service. Starting Sunday, September 1st, laundry services will resume at the regular rate. Should you have any questions regarding this project, please direct them to Meg Pierce at mpierce@solheimsenior.org

Our Library Committee continues with some great work!  I’m thrilled with their enthusiasm and they share this message about September’s featured selection—Animal Adventures!

Although there are a few animals on Solheim's campus and more who visit, many residents are missing their pets.  Why not visit Solheim’s Library and meet new animal friends?

A dog’s story to make you laugh out loud one minute and cry the next; An elephant with a taste for liquor and mischief; A dog who bonds with his soldier during World War II; Cat memes and shelter dogs and cats who solve mysteries. The Library even has a novel based on the real-life giraffes, Lotty and Patches, moving across the US to the San Diego Zoo.

Alas, the Library does not have a copy of the all-time favorite, The Black Stallion –yet!

In addition, our committee is making good use of the bulletin board just outside the Sun Room and our Library.  You’ll find articles from the New York Times about books, publishing, authors, etc.  Join in the adventure of reading, and feel free to share your newspaper clippings about books, etc. in the tray under the board just for that purpose!

All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask, and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
