Weekly Update October 1, 2021

October 1, 2021

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

2021 is flying by – we’ve wrapped up the 3rd quarter of the year, during which we completed numerous projects and implemented several new programs.  As we now sprint into the final stretch of the year, we’re not slowing down on that front. Moving forward for the rest of football season, we invite all residents to join our tailgate parties throughout the week in the Navigage Room: Monday Night Football, College Game Day on Saturday and NFL Football on Sunday.  Root your team on to victory with your friends and enjoy some great tailgating food & drinks! Let the games begin! (Game times will be posted weekly.)

I am very happy to report that our Board of Directors has recently voted to reaffirm Solheim’s Corporate Mission Statement: To provide abundant living for older adults in a caring, faith-based community filled with love, peace, dignity and security”. During this 4th quarter, we will be displaying our Mission Statement more prominently across campus, and striving to actively engage all of our staff members in an ongoing dialogue about our Mission.

I want to add that you can help us further our Mission, as well!  Our staff work hard every single day to help create an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect, and love here on campus, and we love to honor the superstars in our midst. To that end, we’ve already received some very nice nominations for our next “Employees of the Quarter” – but I’m hoping that we’ll get even more in the coming weeks.  Residents and their friends / family members can always nominate an employee for this award, either with cards that are available at our nursing stations and the front desk, or by filling out the form on our recently-renovated website (available online at www.solheimsenior.org/employee-recognition).

We’ve also received a great response for our virtual “Paint and Sip” Fundraiser, which will be held on Saturday, October 16th, from 7-9pm!  We have now closed our registration, however, I want to note that we have had many generous donors donate towards hosting a resident for this event.  Thank you all for your generosity!  If you missed the deadline, and would like to participate, please contact Tina Antypas as soon as possible at tantypas@solheimsenior.org.

We continue in our protocol for visitations that went into effect recently: For visitations throughout campus—from our Health Center, to our Residential and Assisted Living Campus, to our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood—in accordance with new guidance provided by our regulatory agencies we will now require either proof of vaccination, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the visitation.  (We have rapid testing available on site, Monday through Friday, during business hours for unvaccinated visitors who have not been able to obtain a test within the previous 72 hours.  Rapid testing returns results within approximately 15 minutes and there is a $20 administrative fee for this service.)

We also still ask for your continued partnership, diligence, and patience in continuing to follow all of these important rules, until further notice:

  • Visitors must show proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test dated within the last 72 hours

  • All visitors must still continue to check in when they arrive on campus (including temperature and screening questions) and sign our COVID-19 waiver;

  • We ask that all visitors wear masks and practice social distancing;

  • All residents, regardless of vaccination status, may have “in-room” visits;

  • Any personal “in-room” visits in our Health Center should be scheduled in common areas, or when the roommate is out of the room; and

  • We still continue to encourage outdoor visits or visits in our common areas as much as possible.

As of today’s writing, I am very happy to report that we have no new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 anywhere on campus.

You can always visit our (new and refreshed!) website for more information at www.solheimsenior.org, but if you have specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org
