Weekly Update August 6, 2021

August 6, 2021

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

I realize that the terminology we use when talking about our industry and senior living can be confusing to follow.  I want to take the opportunity to share a brief description of our levels of care, and the terms we use to describe them.  Solheim is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), which means we have the full 4 levels of care, allowing for a continuum of care without having to leave the campus:  Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing.  At Solheim, Independent Living is referred to as Residential Living, our Memory Care is referred to as our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood, and Skilled Nursing is referred to as our Health Center.  These 4 levels of care are broken down into 2 areas when we talk about regulatory agencies.  Residential Care for the Elderly (RCFE) includes three levels of care (Residential Living, Assisted Living, and our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood).  Skilled Nursing we refer to as our Health Center.  You’ll hear us reference the various areas in these ways, and at any time, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

As I mentioned last week, on Saturday, August 28th at 3:00 pm, we will be hosting a very special “Happy Hour Social” for our RCFE residents and their families. We are eager to share with you the many exterior renovations at Solheim.  Save the date on your calendar – more details about this will be forthcoming! Furthermore, a reminder that friends and family members of our Health Center residents are invited to have lunch with their loved ones any day of the week.  We would just ask that you make a reservation at least one day in advance, to allow our dining services department to make appropriate preparations. To confirm a date or ask additional questions, please email Juan Gaytan (Activity Staff member) at jgaytan@solheimsenior.org.

Our renovations continue to move forward in our outdoor spaces, and I thank you all for your continuing patience and partnership as we work hard to refresh all of the beautiful outdoor spaces around campus.  I’m very pleased to reiterate that we are entering the final phases of all of these exciting projects!

For visitations throughout campus—from our Health Center, to our Residential and Assisted Living Campus, to our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood—we also still ask for your continued partnership and diligence in continuing to follow all of these important rules, until further notice:

  • Our recommended visitation hours are 10am – 4pm daily, however if you are visiting outside regular      business hours, please know you will be entering our campus through our Health Center doors;

  • All visitors must still continue to check in when they arrive on campus (including temperature and screening questions) and sign our COVID-19 waiver;

  • We ask that all visitors wear masks and practice social distancing;

  • All residents, regardless of vaccination status, may have “in-room” visits;

  • Any personal “in-room” visits in our Health Center should be scheduled in common areas, or when the roommate is out of the room; and

  • We still continue to encourage outdoor visits or visits in our common areas as much as possible.

As of today’s writing, I am very happy to report that we have no new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 anywhere on campus.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
