Weekly Update December 15, 2023

To:
Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From:
Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This week, I’d love to offer apologies for the inconvenience that the sidewalk rebuilding project taking place outside of our campus may be causing to residents, staff, and visitors. We have now spoken with residents at length a number of times about this situation, but I’ll take this opportunity to briefly explain it once again here: At about 8 am on Tuesday morning, contractors for LA City showed up unannounced, and without having given Solheim’s staff any prior notice, and began to demolish the sidewalks that service our property all along Merton Avenue. Our management team immediately reached out to City officials, who were responsive and profusely apologetic about this failure of communication and planning. Those same City officials also assured us that they will do whatever they can to ensure that this project is finished as quickly as possible – and I am happy to report that as of today, the City’s contractors are indeed in the process of repouring a significant portion of the concrete for the newly-rebuilt sidewalks. Although it will take some time for that concrete to “set” and for the new sidewalks to be useable by the public, we’re very happy to see that progress being made – and we will continue to coordinate closely with the City to do everything in our power to ensure that the entire project is completed as quickly as possible. For the avoidance of any confusion – the ramp and entryway serving the front entrance of Merton & Manor has NOT been impacted by this project, and the front entrance itself remains open to the public.

If you are interested in contacting the City yourself, either because you have questions or concerns about this situation, please feel free to reach out to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org and she can give you contact information for the relevant City officials.

On a much happier note – a final reminder that our deadline for reservations for our Christmas Lunch is today! Solheim is pleased to invite up to 2 guests of our residents to a special Christmas Lunch at 12:00 pm on Wednesday December 20th for a cost of $30 per person.   We’ll have festive holiday cocktails beginning at 11:00 am in our Navigage Room, with staggered brunch seating in 15-minute increments.  To RSVP or for more information you may reach out to Ashley Brayman at abrayman@solheimsenior.org or by phone at 323 257 7518 x 224.

I also want to thank everyone for your support and contributions towards our Employee Appreciation Fund.  Every year at this time, we offer a meaningful way to express your gratitude: by contributing to the Employee Appreciation Fund. Your generous donations, will be distributed equally among our staff, serving as a tangible testament to your support and recognition of their invaluable service.  To make a donation, or set up a recurring donation, please visit www.solheimsenior.org/donate and choose the Employee Appreciation option.

Visitation Guidelines remain unchanged from last week.  All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.

You can always visit our website for more information at www.solheimsenior.org, but if you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
