Weekly Update September 8, 2023
September 8, 2023
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
We are putting the final touches on the completion of our internet and cable TV project throughout campus. I want to thank everyone for your patience as we move forward on this update. I understand there will be a learning curve, and that issues will undoubtedly still need to be resolved on an individual basis over the next few weeks. We will do our best to address each one in a timely manner. Please let your nursing station or the front desk know of any issues, and we will get a work order submitted right away. We are excited with the possibilities this new enhancement brings to our community!
Today, I am happy to say that we had a very instructive presentation here on campus, entitled “Enhancing Peace of Mind,” which was put on with the assistance of Alzheimer’s Los Angeles and Forest Lawn. Don’t miss our 2nd Session next Friday 9/15 from 1pm-3pm! Highlights from that upcoming 2nd Session will include:
Huntington Hospital: Patty Watson-Swan, RN, will be presenting on considering your own health wishes and clearly expressing them in writing.
Adria E. Navarro, PhD, LCSW, will be facilitating an advance directive workshop – complete with forms, signature witnesses, and mobile notary.
These programs are being made available to all residents, family members, caregivers, and members of the general community. If you’d like to register, please contact Ashley Brayman at 323 257 7518 x224, or email abrayman@solheimsenior.org.
In addition, next Friday at 6:30pm, Solheim Lutheran Church will be hosting a viewing of the movie, “The Mission”. This Oscar Winning PG-rated film with a star-studded cast takes place deep in the jungles of South America, where two men have been engaging in missionary work. Now, after years of struggle together, they find themselves on opposite sides in a dramatic fight for the natives' independence. One will trust in the power of prayer, while the one will put stock in the might of the sword… it promises to be an exciting movie presentation, and everyone is welcome! Contact Ashley Brayman at 323 257 7518 x224, or email abrayman@solheimsenior.org to reserve your space.
Our annual “Resident Satisfaction Survey” is just around the corner and will be distributed mid-September. This year, we will be offering this survey digitally – but rest assured, we will still be having a Survey Kick-Off event, and we will be happy to assist you in any way that we can. This information is always valuable for us, as we continually look for ways to further enhance your experience here at Solheim. Look for more information to come as we get closer to mid-September!
The Eagle Rock Oktoberfest hosted by Solheim is scheduled for Saturday September 23rd from 5pm-9pm in our Skilled Nursing Parking Lot. The $10 entrance fee is waived for residents, although food and drink tickets must be purchased if you are interested in eating or drinking. You may contact the front desk or Tina Antypas for more information.
Visitation Guidelines remain unchanged from last week. All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.
If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
