Weekly Update October 9, 2026

October 9, 2026

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

October is moving right along, and while we may still be waiting for some cooler fall weather, there is no shortage of activities and opportunities to enjoy here at Solheim! From art and cultural outings to sports, entertainment and opportunities to have your voice heard, there is something for everyone.

We encourage all residents to participate in our upcoming Resident Council meeting on Tuesday, October 13, and Resident Town Hall on Thursday, October 15, both at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. These meetings are a wonderful way to stay informed about what's happening at Solheim, share ideas, ask questions and help shape our community. We also currently have an open position on Resident Council and encourage anyone interested in becoming more involved to consider serving. Your participation and input help make Solheim an even better place to live!

On Tuesday, October 13 at 2:30 p.m., join us in the Lobby for our "Meet the Artist" gathering featuring Christopher Chinn, whose artwork is currently on display. Our rotating art exhibits showcase local artists approximately every eight weeks, bringing fresh creativity and beauty to our community. The artwork is available for purchase, and Solheim receives 10% of any sales, making this a wonderful opportunity to support both local artists and our community.

We also have some exciting cultural outings planned! On Thursday, October 15 at 1:30 p.m., residents will visit the Museum of Neon Art, where art, history and creativity come together through colorful and fascinating displays. On Saturday, October 17, we're heading to the Landmark Theatre in Pasadena for a Metropolitan Opera presentation of Macbeth. Whether you enjoy visual arts, music or theater, these outings offer wonderful opportunities to explore and enjoy time with friends and neighbors.

And of course, it's football season and baseball playoff time! Whether you're cheering on your favorite team or simply enjoying the excitement with friends, there's plenty of sports action to follow. This week's calendar also includes Bingo, exercise classes, music and movement, Crafter's Corner, a classic movie matinee featuring Swing Time, Friday Happy Hour and much more. We hope you'll take advantage of these opportunities to stay active, connected and engaged.

We're also looking forward to welcoming Avi Gertmenian, our new Director of Dining Services, on Tuesday, October 13. We are excited for him to get to know our residents and team members as he begins his new role at Solheim.

As always, please remember to check your monthly activity calendar, Weekly Informers, Daily Sheets and in-house Channel 1390 for the latest information and the many opportunities available throughout the week. Whether you're attending a meeting, exploring something new or simply spending time with friends, it's all part of the abundant life we celebrate at Solheim. We look forward to seeing you out and about!

Masks for all visitors to our campus will be available upon request.  Questions may also be directed to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 extension 225 or at tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
