Weekly Update June 17, 2022

June 17, 2022

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholder
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

This coming Tuesday, June 21st marks the longest day of the year:  The Summer Solstice and the first day of Summer!  As the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun, we are alive, refreshed, renewed, energized; all that good, warm, rich stuff we feel in the sun.  As a reminder, Solheim’s name is derived from the Norwegian term: Sun Home!  I believe our founders knew the power the sun has to inspire us to get outside, to feel alive, to be moving and celebrating! We continue to shine and support our residents every way we can, and I encourage you to get outside and bask in the warmth of the sun during these upcoming summer months.

Speaking of shining and warmth, I wanted to share a message we received from a family member.  When I read these words, it offered me proof that we continue to fulfill our mission: to provide abundant living for older adults in a caring faith-based community filled with love, peace dignity and security.   Thank you Joan and Ken for sharing your kind words.

“There needs to be a 10-star rating. Solheim Senior Community has earned it. My brother and I brought our brother to Los Angeles from New York. Solheim was literally the only home that came recommended--and now we know why. From day one, our brother's experience was the antithesis of the place in NY. When your family member is in Solheim's care, YOU are treated like family. My brother was extremely well cared for both physically and emotionally. This is an extremely organized well-oiled nursing facility. There were so many fun activities and everyone was warm and friendly to him. We will always be grateful to our friends at Solheim.” – Joan and Ken, siblings of resident.

We will be partnering with LACPH to host a COVID-10 vaccine clinic on Thursday June 23rd.  Please inform Solheim’s Infection Preventionist, Cheryl Armas if you’d like to register.

Our visitation guidelines remain the same as last week (please be aware that we stop offering rapid tests at 4:30pm).  If you come to visit after that time, we ask that you provide your own proof of a negative Covid-19 test result from within the past 48 hours.  I sincerely thank you for your patience, as our guidelines will likely continue to evolve considering changing regulatory guidance. Our current visitation guidelines are:

  • All visitors in our Residential, Assisted and Memory Care levels of living on campus may visit indoors if the visitor is fully vaccinated OR provides proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within 48 Hours, or a negative Antigen test within 24 hours.

  • All visitors in our Health Center (SNF), including essential visitors who were previously exempt from all visitor testing requirements, must provide one of the following prior to entering the facility for all indoor and in-room visits, REGARDLESS of vaccination status: a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within 48 Hours, or a negative Antigen test within 24 hours.

  • Testing is not required for OUTDOOR visitation.

  • Visitors must always wear a facemask during the visitation and physically distance themselves from facility staff and other residents and visitors that are not part of their group at all times during the visit.

  • Alternative communication such as phone calls, video calls, and online communication is always available.

I am pleased to report that as of today’s writing, we have no new staff or residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.
