Weekly Update February 4, 2022

February 4, 2022

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders

From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

You may recall that last year, our Board of Directors once again reaffirmed our corporate mission statement: “To provide abundant living for older adults in a caring, faith-based community filled with love, peace, dignity and security.” Recently, our Leadership Team also voted to select a 2022 theme for our community: “Abundant Living. Solheim was founded nearly 100 years ago to serve our wonderful residents (as our mission statement states), and that remains our primary mission today. Working hard to provide a meaningful, purposeful, and joyful life for our residents and their families, as well as our kind and caring staff – I think that’s truly what “Abundant Living” is all about!

I invite you all to help us celebrate and embody this 2022 theme as we move forward throughout the rest of the year. You can do so by sharing your recognition of those good deeds, tangible acts of kindness, extraordinary care, and love shown by our staff. Nominations for our “Employee of the Quarter“ are always welcome, and the “Solheim Feeling” nomination card can also be found at nursing stations or at our front desk, or you can fill one out online at www.solheimsenior.org/employee-recognition. Your kind words help our staff to better appreciate just how their everyday acts of kindness and compassion help to foster an environment of “Abundant Living” for all of our residents!

Our visitation guidelines have not changed since last week – however, please be aware that we stop offering rapid tests at 4:30pm. If you come to visit after that time, we ask that you provide your own proof of a negative Covid-19 test result from within the past 48 hours. I sincerely thank you for your patience, as our guidelines will likely continue to evolve in light of changing regulatory guidance. Our current visitation guidelines are:

  • ALL VISITORS on our campus (Residential, Assisted Living, Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood and our Health Center) must provide a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within 48 Hours, or a negative Antigen test within 24 hours, REGARDLESS of vaccination status and REGARDLESS of essential visitor status.

  • Proof of vaccination and booster shot, if eligible, is required for all INDOOR visits.

  • Outdoor visitation is permitted for those that do not meet the vaccination requirement.

  • Indoor visitors and visitors eligible for outdoor visitation must always wear a facemask during the visitation and physically distance themselves from facility staff and other residents and visitors that are not part of their group at all times during the visit.

  • Alternative communication such as phone calls, video calls, and online communication is always available.

Please note there may be a wait time of up to 20 minutes for our staff to accommodate your visit especially over the weekend. Our staff will ensure your visit can be conducted in a manner that adheres to the COVID-19 infection prevention guidelines and does not increase risks to other residents. Please consider our alternative communication methods. As always, the health and safety of our residents and staff remains our top priority, and we are continuing to monitor and follow all applicable CDC, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, CMS, and California Department of Health guidelines. Especially during this period when the entire region is seeing a significant uptick in reported COVID-19 cases, to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19, if you are sick or not feeling well for any reason you should postpone your visit and not come to campus until you’re feeling well again.

As of today’s writing, we have one (1) non direct care staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19. We will continue weekly testing of all residents and staff.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
