January 26, 2024
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community
Last night was a magical evening of celebration for our wonderful staff. Not only did we announce and celebrate our Employees of the Quarter and Employee of the Year, but we also celebrated over 300 years of cumulative service given to Solheim by 19 wonderful employees (i.e., all of our 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 45-year team members)!
Our Employees of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter of 2023 are Valerie Urbina in our Skilled Nursing Campus; Martin Bocanegra in Dining; Pedro Castillo in Activities; Joselito Pama in Facilities; and Brianna Green in our Residential Care Campus (Halvorson Memory Care and Residential/Assisted Living). Each of them has gone above and beyond to help make Solheim a loving home for so many. Please congratulate them when you see them!
And our Employee of the Year for 2023 is Carmen Urbina! Many of you are very familiar with Carmen, as she can be found all over campus on any given day wearing many different hats – helping residents, decorating, and even managing our Wellness Center. Carmen also celebrated 15 years with us in 2023, during which she has been and invaluable asset to Solheim. Please be sure to also congratulate Carmen when you see her! What a great way to start off our second century—celebrating so many wonderful individuals who have helped get us to where we are!
As a reminder, your “Solheim Feeling” Employee Recognition Nominations help us to select our Employees of the Quarters and choose our Employee of the Year… so please be sure to share your recognition of our wonderful employees by filling out a nomination card that can be found at our Front Desk, or any Nursing Station. You may also visit www.solheimsenior.org/employee-recognition . We love to share your kind words with our fantastic staff!
As I mentioned last week, we are partnering with the USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy to be a training site for Occupational Therapy Students completing their Level 1 Fieldwork. Starting this past Tuesday, we will be having a group of 2-4 students on campus from Tuesdays through Friday for 9 weeks. They will be learning about senior living and our community as they get to know our residents by helping to support and lead wellness activities. Solheim has historically been a favored partner for various local schools to work with as they train their students – so we’re thrilled to continue to build on that legacy as we also strengthen our budding relationship with USC, and we look forward to helping to train new students in the healthcare field. Be sure to give these students a warm Solheim welcome when you see them on site!
As a reminder; all staff AND visitors, regardless of COVID-19 or influenza vaccination status, are required to wear a mask in our Health Center / Skilled Nursing campus. Masks will be provided at the Front Desk. All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.
