THE HALVORSON FAMILY CONNECTION, Part 3
The Halvorson Unit
Planning to set up a separate unit for residents with cognitive impairment began in the late 1990’s. Fund-raising was begun, with support received from both individuals and groups. Policies were written and architect’s plans for securing the unit were developed. But the cost for a necessary HVAC upgrade was far more than anticipated. Plans were put on hold until more funds could be raised.
Morgan Halvorson was approached, and he generously contributed enough to cover the upgrade, and more. His gift enabled the unit to be completed. The final element was achieved in November 2000, when Licensing gave permission to activate the delayed egress system. There was a naming ceremony in July 2001 to celebrate “The Morgan and Anna Halvorson Special Care Unit.”
